Wushu, Talou Wushu or Demonstrative Wushu
After 1949, China restructured many kung fu styles and rebranded them as a demonstrative sport known generally as Wushu. This demonstrative sport forgo drilling the combat capability of kung fu (e.g sparring and hard conditioning) and practice based on "Taolu" performances. Today wushu competitions can be seen over the world, wushu athletes have to spent decades perfecting their moves in order to win a gold metal in competitions and many are known to start at the tender age of 6-7years. Taolu involves body movement and maneuvers for which competitors are judged and given points according to specific rules. The forms comprise basic movements (stances, kicks, punches, balances, jumps, sweeps, and throws) based on the aggregate categories of wushu forms, and can be changed for competitions to highlight one's strengths. Competitive wushu forms have time limits that can range from 1 minute, 20 seconds for some external forms, to over five minutes for internal forms. Wushu competitors are increasingly training in aerial techniques such as 540-, 720-, and even 900-degree jumps and kicks, to add more difficulty and style to their forms. In year 2008, Owing to its cultural significance in China, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) allowed the organizers of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing to hold a Wushu tournament in parallel with the Games as a separate event which is the first time that the IOC has allowed such an event. Chinese movie stars, Jet Li and Zhao Wenzhuo are also well known gold medalist in the sport of wushu.
